Our image gallery program has an upload file size limit of 1MB. Also images need to be re-sized for our online stores or if they are using Contribute to make changes themselves. They also may need to crop or otherwise do minor adjustments to image files that don’t require Photoshop or sophisticated design skills.
Many computers already have simple image editing programs on them. If not, for this purpose we recommend XnView which is a free, easy-to-use program downloadable from XnView.com.
Occasionally clients need scanned printed materials to be included in websites or promotional items. These include newspaper and magazine articles, forms and testimonial letters.
If you do not have a good quality scanner, or are not familiar with adjustment of settings for best clarity, please send the printed materials to us for scanning.
Scanning does not create optimum quality forms for web pages. However, in some cases, we can use our “OCR” (Optical Character Recognition) capabilities to scan and convert the file. Forms are usually converted to .pdf (Adobe Reader) format for placing on a website unless they are to be filled out online.
Preferred file formats for audio files are .wav and mp3.
Preferred file formats for video files are .flv or .swf (for embedded Flash video and Flash video clips respectively), .mpeg, .wmv and .qt. .Avi files are also acceptable (but compressed, not raw files unless short), however, usability may vary. If a Flash video is to be edited, we will need the original .fla (not .swf) file.
We prefer not to work with DVD video (as opposed to data) files (.vob format) as this will require conversion before we can work with it and may not be usable. There are additional fees for editing of videos including conversion of any video files submitted in a format other than that which is going to be uploaded, which is almost always .flv. We do not guarantee usability of any video file requiring editing or conversion.
We can work with design files in InDesign (.indd), Photoshop (.psd), and Illustrator or Fireworks.(ai or .eps) for logos or illustrations. If you don’t have these, the original designer should be able to supply them.
Photoshop files should be provided as the original layered files. InDesign files should include all linked files.
We cannot accept nor convert Quark files. Pagemaker and Publisher files are of limited utility; we can open them to see what they look like and possibly copy text out of them. We would need to recreate any designs in those file types. If you have Publisher you can use it to give us an idea of how you would like something to look, that is totally fine.
Where spot color is used, or color is critical, please specify color(s) as PMS, CMYK or RGB. Please be aware there are no absolutes in appearance of colors on computer monitors. In most print work, print proofs can be provided if needed.
